Santi Lara

(Tomelloso, 1975)

Santiago Lara plays with the known and the unexpected. The Spanish artist uses an imaginary but precise language to represent an art that straddles a dreamed and real land, experimenting with art as a tool for communication.

Doctor in Fine Arts. Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). He combines his individual work as a painter with audiovisual experimentation within the Laramascoto collective. After beginning his training at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, he later moved to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he graduated. He then went on to study at the Faculté d'Arts Plastiques in Bordeaux, from where he moved to Paris. After two years in France, he settled in Asturias, although he also spent long periods in Berlin, where he has developed projects and exhibitions in places such as Kunstlerhaus GlogauAIR or Bethanien Kunstraum Kreuzberg. His career shows a wide recognition with awards such as the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome and the Casa de Velázquez residencies; the Villaviciosa City Council Award in 2014; the Cajastur Scholarship in 2010; the LABoral Centro de Arte Production Aid Award (Gijón/Berlin); the Leonardo da Vinci Scholarship (Paris) in 2002 and the Antonio López García Award in 2005. His work has been exhibited in places such as Ruttkowski;68 Gallery (Cologne); Saatchi Gallery (London), Puxagallery (Madrid). Galería Liebre (Madrid); Galería Llamazares (Gijón); Sala Borrón (Oviedo) and Art Fairs such as Arte Lisboa; Arte Santander; Arco; Estampa; JustMAD, MULAFEST and SUMMA Art Fair (Madrid).
